About
Hello and welcome to Murkwood!
My name is Conny Fujita and I'm the fiber artist behind thursdaypurls.
I started thursdaypurls as a knitwear design studio (you can read more on the patterns below). Over time, a lot of leftovers have accumulated and I was wondering what to do with them. Wool embroidery was the perfect solution. After experimenting with stitches for a while and a workshop with the wonderful Tomomi Mimura, I started creating my own characters.
Somewhere along the way, I’ve wandered off into Murkwood Forest and am now sharing the stories of the tiny and not so tiny creatures that live in it with you in my embroidery pieces and illustrations.
The scenes are lighthearted, sometimes a bit silly, and always in bright and vibrant colours. We all can do with a pop of colour in our daily life in a world that is slowly being drained of it. Come along for the journey and discover small delights on the way!
Materials
All embroidery pieces and kits are made with quality yarns and carefully chosen materials. Fabrics are natural fibers, mostly cotton and linen sourced from local fabric stores. You’ll find some bag listings that have slightly different sizes at times as I’m trying to use up as much as possible of the yardage.
The yarns are from indie dyers around the world. Some of which I picked up on travels and some I order in.
You’ll get colour palettes chosen from yarns by Baby Cat Yarns in Colorado Springs (US), Frida Fuchs in Berlin (Germany), La Bien Aimee in Paris (France), Life In The Long Grass in Cork (Ireland), Undercover Otter in Amsterdam (Netherlands), and Tabi Label here in Tokyo. To name a few.
Knitting Patterns
Our clothes and accessories are our armour and an invitation for the right people to find us!
They influence how we feel and hold ourselves when go out into the world. It is also the first thing people notice about us. My patterns have lots of texture, opportunities to play with colour contrast and size inclusive fit. They invite you to create unique pieces and curate a wardrobe that works for your every day life.
You can use your wardrobe to set your mood, let it help you to feel more confident, which in turn will change how you meet people. It might get you a compliment or two, a smile coming your way, small mishaps might be easier to dismiss. Also, when you have garments that fit the body you have, it gets easier to resist the temptation fast fashion is throwing at us all the time. Loving your pieces means taking care of them to keep them around longer. I firmly believe that, while these are small actions at a time, they will create a ripple effect.
