Actions have consequences, Maki learned that the hard way…
When he met Haru at the edge of the small town, where he lives, to deliver messages from the town folk for their relatives in the nearby forest, he was nervous. This was his first his first day as a snail messenger, but he didn’t want to appear like he didn’t know what’s what. He was from The Town after all. So Maki made sure to be at the meeting place early and found himself a spot from where he could overlook the area.
An exasperated: “Finally!” was the first thing Haru heard when he arrived at the meeting spot. The voice seemed to have come from above so he looked up. And sure enough, there was the messenger he was supposed to meet.
“Well, hello to you, too!”, he said with a grin. “I’m Haru. Have you been waiting long?”
Maki inched forward. He had to lean forward quite a bit to see his new colleague. “I’ve been here long enough to be able to quote every article in the Town Times, sort all the letters alphabetically and had time to take a nap.” Maki huffed.
“Time well spent then”.
Incredulous, Maki leaned further down to get into Haru’s face, when he felt a pulling sensation, followed by a loud thud. When the dust settled. he saw the rubble of his house lying on the ground below.
